“Land of the Elephants - this is the best place in the world to see large herds of Asian Elephants”
Experience a wildlife adventure that is both exciting and relaxing at the same time, where the sightings of wild animals will have you on the edge of your seat throughout your comfortable 4X4 jeep safari tour.
A haven for large herds of elephants, deer, sambur, wild boar, water buffalo and jackal as well as for many species of birds, the Uda Walawe National Park is a nature lover’s paradise. Situated 170km to the south east of Colombo, the park is 30,821 hectares in extent and consists of grasslands and thorn scrubs interspersed with many valuable species of rare trees.
A trip into Uda Walawe is not only an opportunity for nature lovers to admire the wildlife of this spectacular region however, but also a chance to witness elephants being prepared for life in the wild. On the fringe of the park is the Elephant Transit Home where orphaned baby elephants are nurtured until they are strong enough to be released into the park. Our trip will include a visit to the transit home at feeding time.
