Warm, tropical Sri Lanka is an island with over a thousand miles of beautiful, pale gold beaches, fringed with coconut palms, caressed by the warm waters of the Indian ocean.
There are lovely bays, deep natural harbours and still lagoons, coral reefs inhabited by colourful fish... exotic rivers and of course the warmth of the glorious sun shine to create a paradise you won't forget.
Sri Lanka's convenient seasons make it possible for half of the island's coast to receive the sun at any given time of the year. The climate is pleasant with average temperatures of around 27degrees Celsius or 80degrees Fahrenheit.
High season for the beaches of the south and west (with our commercial centre Colombo between them) is November to April (the northern winter when we have beautiful weather and perfect conditions for water sports).
Close to the Colombo airport and north of the city of Colombo are the lovely beaches of Hendala, Marawila, Negombo and Waikkal. South of Colombo is our famous 'gold coast' with many fine resorts which stretch from Mt. Lavinia (a suburb of Colombo) to Wadduwa, Kalutara, Berulawa, Bentota, Induruwa, Kosgoda, Ahungalla, Hikkaduwa, Galle, Unawatuna , Koggala, Weligama,Dickewella, Tangalle and Hambantota in the South. Here you can take a pick of excellent beaches, calm surf protected by quiet bays, coral, tropical fish and always...bright sunshine!
Fine beaches with typically wide stretches of white sand and what seems like miles of clear, shallow water is the backdrop to that idyllic setting for romance. Trincomalee, Nilaveli, Arugam bay, Passikudha are some of these un-spoilt beaches, where truly... dreams come true. Even the Dutch singer Jack Jersey was in love with Trincomalee and was touched to have composed his love song titled "Trincomalee"
